How to Apply for Medicare Online

If you are turning 65 within the next three months you can apply for Medicare only online through the Social Security Administration website at https://www.ssa.gov/benefits/medicare/. You can apply online for Medicare (Part A and Part B) even if you are not ready to retire. It takes less than 10 minutes. In most cases, once your application is submitted electronically, you’re done. There are no forms to sign and usually, no documentation is required. Social Security will process your application and contact you if they need more information. It usually takes a few weeks to get your Medicare card in the mail.


Note: Medicare will verify your identify using Equifax. Make sure you do not have a credit freeze on your Equifax account.

If you are currently working and have health coverage through your employer, you may want to decline Medicare Part B so you don't pay Part B premiums. Contact us if you need help deciding if you should signup or decline Part B coverage.
